I woke to Jaken's lips on the back of my neck.
"Good morning."
"Morning," he said as he kissed me again.
His kisses distracted me up to the point when his hand covered my breast.
I moaned and it sounded more like a question, but not a protest. He stopped kissing me. I looked at him over my left shoulder.
"Don't stop."
He continued sliding his tongue up the curve on the side of my neck as his hands went from over my shirt to under it. He made no attempt to take it off.
I pressed into him. He groaned. I groaned back, loving the sound.
He pulled away, and as I leaned back, he looked into my eyes as his hand moved down my stomach and into my shorts. He rested his hand on my pelvic bone, and I said a silent pray of thanks for getting that wax the other day. I felt bad about praying for something like that, but then he touched me, and all I could think...
Oh, my God, that feels good.
I moaned and my head fell back. I closed my eyes and his fingers continued to do things to me I didn't know were appropriate for a man who made his living with his hands. He hit one spot with his middle finger and I gripped his hand.
"Please," I whispered.
"Please what?" he said, and his tone made me open my eyes, his breath hot on my cheek.
"Don't stop." He gave me that grin again, kissed my nose, and pushed his fingers deeper between my legs.
"You want to come for me, baby?”
We had our eyes locked on each other, and the way he spoke to me, I felt like I was doing this for him instead of the other way around. A sense of pride swelled in my chest as a sense of something else swelled in my center.
"Yes," I said.
"Okay, come for me." He commanded.
I knew it was his fingers. The blood had rushed to the area he manipulated with them, but I swear I could have come on command even if he wasn't touching me. His voice had that kind of power. My toes curled and my fingers dug into his forearm. A wave of whatever power orgasms were made of rushed over me.
"That's it, baby," he whispered in my ear as I came back to the here and now. He swung a leg over me, as his phone on the nightstand began to buzz. We both looked at it.
"Oh, you're kidding me," I said.
He started laughing as he rolled over and sat on the edge of the bed. He turned off the alarm and turned back to me.
"I'm sorry." He leaned over and kissed me. "I have a tee time. I have to go."
"Fine, leave me here in bed alone." I flopped back. "Again."
"Well, at least this time I finished what I started." He headed into to the bathroom chuckling.
"Then why do I want more?" I asked myself.

Praise for A New Season

"I loved how the backstory was leaked in a little at a time to keep you hooked up until the end.. it was just really perfect!" - Amber@WickedGoodReads

"Ok, I admit it: I just really enjoy a good sports romance. This is certainly that, but it's more too as the characters are nuanced and well developed. String writing and a very nicely done plot. Truly enjoyable and, of course, therefore recommended!" -The Mysterious Amazon Customer

“I loved reading about Greek mythology the most when I was in high school.”
I turned toward Melanie who was staring at me. I wondered how long she’d been looking on or more so. How long ago did she move her chair to the side of the table, so we were sitting next to each other, rather than across from each other?
“I’m a huge fan of Greek mythology myself,” I respond.
“You are?” Melanie cocked her head to the side. A look of disbelief crossed her face and I tried not to laugh.
“I am. I loved studying about it in college. I took a couple of Greek mythology classes between History and Literature. I even took a Latin class as well. The culture intrigues me.”
“Same here. Anything I can get my hands on I love to read or watch about.”
“If that’s the case, I have a comic I’d love to show you. It’s about Persephone and Hades.”
Melanie quickly put her drink down and placed her hand over mine.
“Wait!” There was a stunned look on her face as she reached into her back pocket, bringing her phone out. It was only seconds before she was shoving the device in my face, showing me exactly what I’d been about to tell her.
“You mean Lore Olympus?!”
“Yeah,” I laughed at Melanie’s enthusiasm and when she pulled the phone away, I saw a genuine smile plastered across her face as she looked at me.
“It’s one of my all-time favorite comics and it’s not just the story but the illustrations as well. It’s just so cool to see the story come to life in a different way than just words or even so, the way most people read about it.”
“Exactly. We can see these Gods in our time and see them be almost human for a second. It’s quite a refreshing rendition to the Greek mythology world.”
“Did you see it was being optioned for a show too?!”
“I had not but that sounds exciting. I wonder if it will be animated the way it is in the comics or if they are going to change it.”
“I hope they’d keep it the way it is but if anything, seeing that story come to life would be amazing to watch.”
“I hope you wouldn’t make me watch it alone.”
It was a long shot but I stuck the comment out there in the open, hoping with how this coffee date was going, Melanie would sink into the words and move this in the direction I wanted it to go.
“Smooth move there, Jack.” She shook her head and leaned in closer to me, just like she had at the bar. “I said this wasn’t a date.”
“Yet here you are in a dress, sitting next to me, giving me the smile I’ve been so desperately wanting to get from you.”
“My smile?” She moved her hand to her lips and looked down at her drink.
I reached out, tucking my fingers under her chin and lifting her head up.
“You’re smile, Melanie.” I gave her a small smile myself. “Since I’ve known you, I’ve never seen the smile you give others directed toward me. Now, you’ve given me a smile that I’ve never seen you give anyone else.”

Review: Hell's Wedding Bells

Hell's Wedding Bells Hell's Wedding Bells by Annabelle Anders
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Hell’s Wedding Bells is a standalone novella within the Devilish Debutantes series. You do not need to have read the rest of the series to understand this one, but it will leave you curious. I’ve only read book one in the series and understood this one perfectly fine. However, it has increased my need – which was already high – to read the rest of the series.

As always with Annabelle Anders, we have a story with so much packed into it. I have a complicated relationship when it comes to short stories and novella, but I always trust Annabelle Anders to deliver a story that will have me hooked. Such is what happened here.

I was sucked into Hell’s Wedding Bells from the very first page. I instantly fell in love with our characters and devoured their story in a single sitting. There was so much packed into this, ensuring the story delivered plenty of emotional punches.

If you’re a fan of historical romance, I highly recommend this one.

Review: Earl of Exile

Earl of Exile Earl of Exile by Tammy Andresen
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Earl of Exile is the third book in Tammy Andresen’s Lords of Scandal series, but it works perfectly fine as a standalone novel. Although it works fine as a standalone novel, I would recommend reading this series in order to best enjoy some of the elements introduced in this one.

With Earl of Exile, I had a bit of a debate about what rating to give it. It’s a three-point-five-star rating, and I could not decide if I wanted to round up or down. There were elements introduced to the overall story arc that had me wanting to round up, yet I didn’t quite enjoy the book as much as I enjoyed the second book. In the end, I opted to round down simply because I’ve enjoyed other books by the author a lot more.

As always, Tammy Andresen gave a story that hooked throughout. It’s short and packs a punch, ensuring you can devour it in a single sitting. If you’ve enjoyed the prior books, I certainly recommend diving into this one.

He grabs me by the throat and shoves me into the wall, causing the plasterboard to fall to the floor. Those black eyes penetrate me. His fingers tremble around my neck, and I know it’s because he wants to squeeze harder. It's the first time I truly fear him; I see the man who was born into the world of crime and violence. I know he sees my fear, senses it the same way a predator does his prey. As his lips stretch into a wolfish smirk, he squeezes my neck tighter, cutting off my airways, showing me he has the power to end me right here in this shithole of a flat, the same place he sat and played video games with me. He’s telling me none of that matters, that I’m nothing to him.
Malachi turns so fast, releasing my neck. I gasp, trying so hard to pull in the oxygen my lungs burn for that I don’t have time to process what's happening. That's when I see the smooth metal of the gun he had hidden pushed hard against my dad’s temple. So hard that a trickle of blood falls like a crimson tear.
“What are you doing?” I whisper, too terrified to even breathe or make the wrong move.
My heart stutters as he releases the safety catch, finger steady on the trigger.
“His payment will be paid!” With the gun to my father’s temple, he’s clearly telling me that if I don’t agree to his demands, he’s killing my father. He’s going to make me watch as he blows his brains across the tiny flat. Malachi knows what he is doing. He’s pulling the strings, and now he’s going to watch me dance.
His decision is unwavering. There is no remorse in his eyes as his finger draws back, hand completely steady.
He is a monster.
Shutting my eyes against the pain, a tear escapes. I’m mourning the man I used to know, my freedom, and the girl I know will be changed forever with my answer.
“Take me.”

"Don't expect romance and declarations of love from me. It's not who I am. If you agree to this, there won't be anyone else, for either of us. I was never good at sharing when I was young, and I'm worse now. I can't let you agree to this unless you understand that you'll have my body, but I don't have a heart to give you."
"Keep it. Giving away something you can't live without leaves you to wither and die. I know, I watched it happen to my mother, and I will never be like her."
"So, are you willing to give this a try?"
I looked at him, really looked at him. Could I keep my heart safe? Already he'd shown me glimpses of someone possibly as broken as I was under his polished veneer. He was dangerous to me because he might tempt me to do the one thing I'd always avoided, fall head over heels.
God help me. I thought I'd evaded temptation in the past. I'd run from every boyfriend who threatened to make me feel anything more than lust. Maybe, knowing he wasn't going to fall in love with me would be the difference. We could fight off the loneliness together, and guard our hearts at the same time. It had to work because I didn't think I had the strength to say no to him. No, that wasn't exactly true. I didn't want to walk away from him, and that scared me more.
"Yes. I want to give this, whatever this is, a try."

He was King of Arcadia Prep until she came for his throne…

ARIANNA
We moved around a lot, too much.
The shine of my highly respected and decorated military dad’s badge wore off after I became heavy baggage.
I was the new girl thirteen times in two years and every time I had to tape up another box I grew more resentful. Forced to forget everyone I fell in love with, laughed with and bonded with.
For a certain price you could unburden yourself from your hormonal teen at Arcadia Prep too.
I’m reckless.
I’m impatient.
Purple hair, a don’t care attitude and my Doc Martens all screamed leave me alone, fending off any new relationships.
I vowed to keep my heart safe this time, locking it away right under my anger but he knew exactly where I hid the spare key – in his mysterious eyes the minute ours locked.

BOLTON
I was stuck – the essence of a God in some kind of limbo of high school.
I was meant for more than this.
Being king here meant nothing.
Arcadia Prep wasn’t for the weak. The expectations, the pressure, the standards, the success and privilege smug on everyone’s face wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea.
I thrived in chaos.
I’m fearless.
I’m ruthless.
The new girl was not my cup of tea.
She stomped her Doc Martens all over my tradition, rules and my reign.
We all have secrets. Mine were paper weighted down by my heavy crown.
Her violet eyes and her abrupt attitude spewed sass all over my black on black. She didn’t faze me until I realized she was after my crown…

BOLTON

I heard footsteps long before I reached the door alerting me someone was trespassing. Quietly I stood in the doorway searching the room for culprit when I should have guessed.
Arianna. New girl.
Her fingers danced on the surfaces as her curiosity took it all in. There was no way to warn people that I was in a dangerously ruthless mood, to warn her.
“You’re gonna graduate from new girl to felon if you don't start following the rules.”
She laughed and something about the casual attitude around the word felon made it seem like she knew trouble better than I did.
“Been there, done that, wasn't worth the t-shirt or the keychain.”
I plopped down in the chair I put there years ago now, tired of getting drunk and doing the same shit. I rather do it alone then with people I hardly like. That's why I come here to hide during parties.
She finally let eyes gloss over me and her face whines at the cut on my lip. I almost thought she physically got hurt, too bad suffering isn't transferable.
“What the fuck happened to you?”
That sounded like a real concern, in all it's displaced glory. Stern, demanding, even judgement - all here.
“Well, not that it's your business, but I finally got what I deserved for my mouth.”
She fearlessly walked right over to me standing between my legs and leaned down to get a better look. Her deep blues rimmed with violet to match her hair, reminded me of the sky when it got tie-dyed  right before sundown, as she inspected my wound that stopped hurting the more I pushed the beer bottle to my lips over and over.
Better than the golden hour before the all the colors turned black and nothing was covered in the pretty filter. That summed up Arianna.
“Well deserved doesn't make it hurt less.”
She was wrong. It actually did.
“Are you gonna kiss it better?”
She actually half scuffed, half snorted with laughter like I wasn't being serious. I was in a despicable and semi-diabolical mood hellbent on the two B’s that teenagers values. Beers and Babes. The third B (bongs) was out since I couldn't get caught with shit in my system during a pee test.
Arianna wasn't half bad looking if I looked past her immature tantrum leading to her purple hair. Her skin shimmered like it was actually happy and her lips were almost always smiling. In this moment she was half goddess, but I couldn't forget she was always half Hell.
My own personal hell.
I let my hand touch her thigh so she knew I was serious even though I was slumped down and perpetually board.
“What are you doing? We hate each other remember?”
“Hate me tomorrow.”
