The Guest List by Lucy Foley
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
After reading Lucy Foley’s The Hunting Party, I found myself disappointed. I had expected a lot more from it, but I remained curious about the author’s work. There was potential there, and that had me willing to dive into The Guest List.
I enjoyed The Guest List more than I enjoyed The Hunting Party, but I couldn’t bring myself to round my rating up. It was a three-point-five-star rating, with too many things pulling it down to a final three-star rating.
The story certainly held me attention and I was curious to see how all the pieces would play out, but it was much slower than I would have liked. I’m fine with slow reads, but I expect there to be a big payoff at the end. As it was, the ending felt like it was over and done with in the blink of an eye – not to mention, there were certain details that were never answered. Despite this, I was curious throughout and it held my attention.
All in all, an addictive read, but it didn’t wow me in the way it could have.
