Review: The Iron Crown

The Iron Crown The Iron Crown by L.L. MacRae
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Iron Crown is the first book in L.L. MacRae’s Dragon Spirits series, and it is a gripping start to the series. With plenty packed into the story, I could not get enough of all that was in play and all the promises of what is to come in the rest of the series. It left me eager for more – and I now need to go and read the prequel, The Citrine Key, to find out more about the world.

The Iron Crown is a checklist of what makes for great fantasy reading, without being a checklist. It is a book packed with all the goodies guaranteed to keep you hooked – vengeful spirits, dragons, magic, quests, war, and more – and will leave you eager for more. From the start, it pulls you in deep and ensures you’re eager to see how everything develops. Each new element that is introduced will leave you with new theories – about characters, about the world, about everything – and ensures you’re powering through the pages to get answers.

Without a doubt, this was a great start to what promises to be a highly addictive series. Although it can be read without reading The Citrine Key first, it will leave you wanting to dive in to get more of the world and answers to some of the historical events.
