They say everything happens for a reason.

Joss Hess has spent his entire life looking for that reason.

After nearly killing a man and barely avoiding prison, Joss finds himself sentenced to 18 months on Briscoe Ranch, where certain things are expected.

Hard work. Manners. Responsibility. Respect. Worst of all—anger management and restraint.

If he fails, Joss will be sent back to the state penitentiary to serve the remainder of his sentence.

One road block stands between Joss and his freedom: Ren Briscoe

Raised by ranchers, Ren Briscoe has been around men her entire life.

Home on summer vacation, she quickly realizes that Joss Hess is unlike any man she has ever encountered before.

She hates everything about him…his filthy mouth, arrogant attitude, the way he makes fun of her purity ring and her boyfriend. Mostly, she hates him because no matter how hard she fights it, Joss occupies her every thought. He may be the convict serving his sentence; but the real prisoner is Ren.

Author Bio

Just the fact that someone may be reading my ‘bio’ thrills me. What does one say in an author bio? Well, I LOVE to write! Sometimes characters talk to me in my head (in a non-psychotic way) and I have to get what they are saying out on paper! So, here we are! 😊

I am a part-time juvenile probation officer and full-time wife…but I spend the majority of the time helping my two favorite, college-aged sons navigate through life and hopefully become the best humans they can be.

I am a huge fan of the Kansas Jayhawks, the Oregon Ducks and the Chicago Cubs! (I have a dog named Wrigley)

I’m terribly addicted to music—ALLLLL kinds and driving in the car with the sunroof open and radio turned up helps the creative juices flow.

I am deliciously addicted to queso and cupcakes; but even with that…I like to slowly kill my body with Crossfit. I’m annoyingly sarcastic.

People ask me ‘what has been your favorite book to write’—I would have to say my original series. (I think it sold 100 copies)  J   Someday…I may have to tweak them a bit because my heart was poured into those books—but they need help!  Slick was my Amazon best seller…but every one of them mean something to me.

In the end, I truly believe life is taken way too seriously by most…I say enjoy every moment, have an adult beverage and READ!! Cheers….

Review: Like a Demon: The Strange Case of Rebecca Prosper

Like a Demon: The Strange Case of Rebecca Prosper Like a Demon: The Strange Case of Rebecca Prosper by Roxanne Rue
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Like a Demon: The Strange Case of Rebecca Prosper introduces us to Roxanne Rue’s serial series, setting things off with a story that will leave you desperate for more. This first book provides us with so much, giving us ideas of where things could go whilst leaving us clueless as to how everything will play out. It’s a great introduction to a serial that has me desperate to dive into more.

In truth, my rating of this one is a three-point-five-star rating. I had a big debate as to whether I would round this one up or down, and, in the end, I opted with down. This mostly reflects how harsh I am when it comes to rating books. Moreover, I’m positive the future releases in this series will be capable of pulling higher ratings out of me.

If I’m being completely honest, I’m extra harsh with my ratings of serial releases. I’m a lover of tomes, where I can sit and read an entire story in one. I do occasional read serial releases, but not often. I prefer it when they’re all released, allowing me to devour the story back-to-back, preventing me impatience from getting the best of me. When a serial sounds good, however, I’m willing to make an exception – as I was with this.

I’m glad I did. Although it wasn’t as steamy as I’d expected, this book set up the story extremely well. I really enjoyed the characters (I was wearing a stupid smile at many of the comments made), I adored the storyline that unfolded (there were many elements to it, and all aspects grabbed me), and the ending left me desperate for more (I would have been curious without the cliff-hanger, but the cliff-hanger has me in dire need of the next part of the story).

The reason I rounded down was because this one was very much an introduction point. It was great, it was necessary, but it ended just as things really got moving. I would have liked a wee bit more before it ended, but as it was that’s just me being picky. I know when I dive into the second part of the story, I’m going to get that action I’m desperate for.

Without a doubt, Like a Demon: The Strange Case of Rebecca Prosper has me curious about this serial.

Release Blitz: Bossy Brother Joey.

Title: Bossy Brothers: Joey
Series: Bossy Brothers #2
Author: JA Huss
Genre: MMFM Erotic Suspense
Release Date: July 29, 2019

Blurb

Six years before my phone rang and changed my life forever, I made a mistake.

I met a girl, we had some fun, and then we had a baby. And I fell pretty damn hard for my daughter. I was going to be there. I was going to give her everything I never had. I was going to have a family.

And then her mother disappeared and took my baby with her.

And now she’s done it again. Because that call that changed my life was from my five-year-old daughter asking me if I knew where her Mommy was.

Then came the lawyers. And the demands from her super-rich, super-powerful messed-up family. And the little fact that my ex didn’t just “disappear” she was “presumed dead”.

I don’t live a traditional lifestyle and I’m not in a traditional relationship.

But I can pretend if I have to.

And that was the plan when my two “best friends” and I decided to hire “professional liar” Brooke Alder to be my fake fiancée.

It’s totally gonna work.  As long as MY super-rich, super-powerful, messed-up family doesn’t get in the way.

Bossy Brothers: Joey is book two in the Bossy Brothers series and features a delicious, burning hot, MMFM, surprise-baby, fake fiancée story with a twist that proves committed couples don’t just come in two’s, mistakes can be a good thing, and for some people, non-traditional love is exactly the kind they should fight for.

Excerpt

JOEY
They’re on the loveseat facing the window and in profile from my view. Huck is down on his knees, head between Brooke’s legs. She’s gripping his hair, head thrown back, eyes closed, and her plump mouth open to allow the moans to escape.
Huck reaches up, grabs the front of her sundress, and drags it down so her bra is exposed. He does that again with the bra, and her tits bounce out. All the while he’s licking her pussy.
One hand grabs one breast and squeezes. Hard. Hard enough to make Brooke whimper. And the other one slides between her legs.
He fingers her as I watch, my dick getting hard at the sight of them.
Footsteps on the stairs make me look over my shoulder. Wald comes up around the banister. Saying nothing, but looking me dead in the eyes.
He licks his lips and I turn back to keep watching.
Wald’s hands slide around my hips and his chest presses into my back as he reaches for my already hard cock beneath my slacks.
“Wald,” I say. But it’s so soft, I don’t think he hears me.
Lie. It’s a lie. He hears me.
They planned this.
He and Huck planned this on the way over.
Wald grabs my hand and reaches for his dick, placing my palm over his growing hardness under his pants. He squeezes himself using my hand to do it and I fucking moan. I can’t help it.
Then he’s kissing my neck, whispering, “Come on, dude. Play along. You know you want to,” in my ear as he begins to unbuckle my belt.
I suck in a breath of air, thinking up a reason why I should stop him.
But there’s no good reason. We’ve already crossed the line again.
Where did I really think this day would end up?
I brought a girl in. I let them both have their fun. And I had mine too. Then I gave her a ring and bought her a house and told them they were staying here with us.
I can say it’s all for Maisy. And that might still be true.
But this is the real me, isn’t it?
This is the reason why I never settled down. Why I let Charlotte leave me behind the day Maisy was born. Why I never came back here to the city where I was raised. Where my brothers still live.
It’s because I have always wanted more than I have.
I’m a selfish, greedy motherfucker and that’s never going to change.
Wald has my zipper down now. I’m still holding his cock through his jeans. He’s hard, and I’m hard, and there’s no way we’re not doing this.
He pulls my cock out and starts to jerk me off. Leaning his chest into my back. His lips kissing my neck.
“Come on,” he says.
I turn my head a little. I can feel his breath on the side of my cheek. His lips drag along the stubble of my jaw until he catches the corner of my mouth with his teeth.
Brooke is moaning in the other room and I turn my head back to watch. Huck is climbing up her stomach, kissing it as he unbuckles his belt and gets his pants open. He pulls his cock out and fists it, her looking up at him. He takes her hand and wraps it around his shaft and gives her a little push. A little encouragement.
Brooke begins to tug on him, their eyes still locked together.
Wald squeezes my dick, reminding me who I’m with right now.
I lean into the doorjamb. My right hand behind me, squeezing Wald’s dick as he gets his pants undone and pulls himself out. He hands it to me.
That’s the only way to describe that move. He takes my hand and places it over his cock and I automatically begin to mimic Brooke as she jerks Huck in the other room.
She’s got her mouth open now. Still looking up at my friend like he’s got all the answers.
Wald’s hands are on my hips. He presses forward until his cock is rubbing up against my ass. One hand slides down along the diagonal muscle of my waist and grabs my balls.
I suck in a breath of air and close my eyes. Holding in the moan that wants to escape.
But Brooke is giving Huck a sloppy blow job and I want to watch it.
So I open my eyes and see Huck staring back at me.
“Come here,” he whispers.

Excerpt

There is no breeze when my stiletto hits the footpath. The air is stale and lifeless. Like me. I slip each foot out of my shoes and hang them from my fingertips. The path is scorching against the flesh of my soles. I’m not sure why I do it—it could be because the path is far too hot for my skin to bear, or it could be because this is a natural act for me, but I run. I run flat out. Running has always alleviated my tension—it’s probably why I started training for this stupid half-marathon in the first place. My handbag slaps at my sides as my feet pound against the tar. Running usually supplies contentment in my life, but right now I feel numb. There is no contentment—no nothing. Maybe if I run far enough away then I won’t have cancer anymore.

Darting in front of a car, I inhale harshly as I wave my apologies before entering a children’s playground on the opposite corner to the medical centre. Children swing freely. The sound of innocent laughter fills the air. The green grass instantly cushions my boiling feet. I stare at its brilliant colouration when my head drops and my hands grasp my knees.

“It’s okay. Breathe,” I tell myself, trying to slow each breath.

Without warning the grass slowly fades to a haunting grey. I flick my head upwards and my body follows suit. The swings bearing the weight of small children suddenly morph into aged tombstones. This once beautiful playground becomes ugly, as I see only an eerie cemetery. I try to escape the sudden changes, and step forward. My lungs seize, causing me to cough hard, and I gasp. I attempt to inhale air, but it’s not entering my body like it should. A stampeding herd pummels my chest, buckling my torso over, folding me in half once more.

“Breathe, May,” I whisper, right before my legs give way. I fall heavily upon my knees as salty tears flow steadily from my disbelieving eyes. Finally, I draw a needy mouthful of air only to release it again in an injured howl.

Please don’t take my life.

Review: Runner

Runner Runner by Patrick Lee
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Patrick Lee’s Runner, the first Sam Dryden book, has me conflicted. On the one hand it was an addictive read, one I powered through in no time at all. On the other hand, it never quite wowed me in the way I had been hoping for. There is no denying I was hooked, at the same time it wasn’t what I’d expected.

With Runner, I got serious Reacher vibes. It felt like a Reacher book with a bit of a techno-thriller twist. Although the Jack Reacher books are a guilty pleasure of mine, Sam Dryden felt like a bit of a cheap imitation. There was action and he always had an answer, but he wasn’t Jack. With Jack Reacher there’s that little bit more, that edge that is uniquely Reacher, that makes Sam Dryden feel like a child in comparison.

Although I didn’t come to enjoy Sam Dryden as a character in the way I’d hoped, the storyline was interesting. I love a good techno-thriller, and this one is done in such a way that it almost feels paranormal in nature. It’s not, but such is the vibe that comes across at some points. It keeps you hooked, curious to see how everything comes together, and has plenty to entertain throughout.

I may give the second book a read, but at the moment it’s not at the top of my to-read list. I’m interested, but I’m not going to go out of my way.
