“Let them see you in the only way I cannot? Like hell. This is mine.” He quirks his thumb, making my spine contract, manipulated like a marionette. “Your heavy pants, mine to taste. Your wails of ecstasy, mine to hear.” He teases me with a second finger, spreading me open. “The tightening of every muscle just before you lose control, mine to feel. The scent of your arousal that lingers long after, mine to smell.”

“I want you to remember, Faith,” he said softly. “I want you to remember all the good times and leave out the bad ones.”
“I don’t think I get to pick and choose.”
“We both did things we weren’t proud of. Things that I’d be happy for you to forget. But if it comes back to you, I want you to know that I’m sorry. It was my fault.”
I wanted to ask him what we’d done, what awful things we’d put each other through. But I was afraid to know. Maybe, in some ways, my memory loss was a blessing. All the bad things had been wiped clean while for Will, he had to live with them each day, had to remember every word, every hurtful action.
I leant in closer and rested my head on his chest. At first his body stiffened, then he relaxed, put his arm around me and held me close.
We laid like that for a time while something skimmed the sky high above us.
“Look a shooting star,” he said.
“The International Space Station.”
“Show off.”
I giggled. Then he bent his head, put his lips on mine and kissed me.

I’ll just admit it right up front—I don’t love the holidays.
In fact, Christmas makes me downright cranky.
Call me the Grinch if you must, but if your dad chose that day to decide he was wrong about that whole wanting a family thing, you’d grow up miffed about mistletoe too. Every candy cane, ugly sweater, and falalalala reminds me of the worst day of my life.
So when my uncle—a bigwig network executive—gives me one last shot to salvage my disastrous TV production career on a show called Holiday Homes, I’ve got no choice but to suck it up, head to the small town of Singletree, and fake festive.
The problem?
Callan Whitewood. The sexy, sullen former pro-soccer player might be the one person on earth who hates the holidays more than I do. After a devastating injury ended his career, he’s left with a limp, no idea what to do with his future, and a cheerless attitude worthy of Ebenezer Scrooge. But I’ve got a TIME LIMIT to convince the gorgeous grump to allow his home to be featured as the pinnacle of the Christmas episode of the show that’s going to save my career.
That is, if I can keep my hands off him… but I’m having a bit of trouble sticking to the task.

SHAKING THE SLEIGH is a standalone holiday romantic comedy with a satisfying happily ever after, plenty of festive chuckles, some sexy times and a few chinchillas. Maybe a cat. (And there might be a wombat because wombats really do fit into almost any story.)

THE NOT SO MEET CUTE

When someone at the craps table beside me shouts, “Yes!” I flick my gaze in that direction. Standing at the very end is a tall woman in tight black pants with the shapeliest ass.
There’s an untidy pile of flecked chips in front of her. A modest stack of chips is also nestled on the edge of the table.
Apparently, she’s winning.
Curious, I watch as the woman makes the standard pass line bet. There are three shooters at the table, and they will each take a turn rolling the dice, although they will all be betting on each roll.
Not my game of choice.
No skill.
Just luck.
She’s first, so she grabs the dice, gives them a blow for luck, and rolls them both down the table in her come out roll.
I can’t see the dice, but when she jumps up and down, I can only guess she rolled a seven or an eleven. It’s still her turn, and when she does her little ritual with the dice again, I find it more than sexy. On this roll, if she rolls a two, three or twelve, she loses.
I feel like I want to cross my fingers for her.
Luck.
It’s all about luck.
She jumps up and down again, and I know she’s still in.
Roll after roll, she’s kicking ass.
Now, I’m holding my breath because she’s on the point roll. The dealer turns the puck to ‘ON’ and places it on the number that was just rolled. All she has to do is avoid a seven to keep going.
She’s still as the roll comes to a stop. I feel more emotion watching her than I did with everything I had on the line back at the blackjack table.
“Bad luck,” I hear someone groan and watch as the pile of chips she had pushed forward disappears.
Shit!
She sevened-out. She practically sags at the table as the loss registers. Just then, the concierge hands me a receipt that acknowledges the transfer of my winnings, and shaking my head for her, I start to stride toward the exit.
Shouldn’t play a game luck.
Somehow, she accidentally pushes the small remaining pile of chips under her arm onto the floor as I’m passing behind her. Without a second thought, I find myself diving down to help her recover her money.
When my eyes meet her sparkling blue ones, I can’t move, and all the breath is knocked squarely from my chest.
Elizabeth.
It’s been ten years since I broke her heart, and shit…
Little Liz Laurent is all grown up.

Review: Hide

Hide Hide by Lisa Gardner
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Hide is the second book in the D.D. Warren series, and I found myself thinking the same thing I did when reading Alone. As with book one, Hide seemed to focus much more on Bobby Dodge than on D.D. Warren. Sure, we got more of her in this book than we did in the first, yet it was not enough. I’m still waiting for D.D. Warren to take the driver’s seat.

Although I once again found myself wanting more of D.D. Warren, this did not take away from my enjoyment of the book. As with all my Lisa Gardner reads, Hide had me addicted throughout. There were plenty of layers to this story, many elements I was curious about, and it had me guessing throughout.

I confess, I did work out the main element of the story. However, there were side details and other aspects that were a surprise to me. Thus, I did not mind the fact I worked out some of the story as the rest kept me engaged throughout.

As much as I enjoyed this second D.D. Warren book, I really do find myself hoping book three gives us more of her.

Review: Out of the Ashes

Out of the Ashes Out of the Ashes by R.C. Boldt
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Out of the Ashes is the second book in R.C. Boldt’s Out of… series, but it works perfectly fine as a standalone novel. If you have read other Boldt books, including the prior book in the series, you will have a better understanding of the side characters in this one, but it is not necessary to enjoy Out of the Ashes.

Out of the Ashes is a story of healing, one that packs a serious punch throughout. You’re pulled in deep, you fall in love with the characters, and you’ll find yourself happy to devour it in a single sitting. As always, Boldt pulled out all the emotions with this one and I could not put it down.

As much as I loved this one, I did find myself with a few lingering questions. I’m hoping these will be answered in the future Out of… books, because I’m really curious to find out the reasons behind these aspects and there is the potential for answers through a certain new character.

Overall, Out of the Ashes was another wonderful read from R.C. Boldt. It was not my favourite read from the author, but every R.C. Boldt book I have read has shown itself to be wonderful.

Review: Out of Love

Out of Love Out of Love by R.C. Boldt
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

R.C. Boldt is an author who loves to have characters pop up throughout her books, and this has resulted in me wanting to read all her work. In truth, I would have read them all anyway – I love her writing and stories, they ensure I want more – but the fact characters pop up regularly helped to direct me towards which Boldt book I would read next.

After reading and enjoying Too Good at Goodbyes, I was left curious about Foster Kavanaugh. Thus, Out of Love became my next R.C. Boldt read. Although I adored this one, a part of me wishes I’d read the Teach Me series first. There are so many characters in this one I was curious about, and I wish I’d read their stories first. Not that it took away from this one, I simply would have liked to read things in order. Of course, it just means as soon as I’ve finished reading Out of the Ashes I’m going to go and read the Teach Me series.

Despite my desire to have read the Teach Me series to know more about the side characters, Out of Love was a wonderful read. It is not my favourite R.C. Boldt read – there were elements in this one I would have liked to see developed a bit more – but it contains the usual Boldt goodness. I was grinning and laughing at many points, I was hit with all the feels, and had to devour this one. It pulls you right in, keeping you hooked throughout.

Add in the fact there are side characters whose stories have yet to be told, and I know the Out of… series is going to be another addictive series from R.C. Boldt.
