Good Eggs by Rebecca Hardiman
My rating: 2 of 5 stars
Good Eggs is a book that had me conflicted. Although there were some aspects of this that were entertaining, it was far too predictable for me. Due to this, I never quite felt the connection to the story that I had hoped to experience.
In truth, I think this might just be one of those cases where I was not the right reader. There was supposed to be humour with this story, but I did not find the story funny. In fact, I found some parts of it tedious. I kept waiting to be sucked in, eager to feel something, but that never happened. There were a handful of moments where this one left me with the belief things were going to improve, and the story certainly had potential, but it never delivered anything to make me truly invested in this one. Things felt too surface level, without the depth that would have made it more gripping.
All in all, I can see the appeal of Good Eggs, yet it was not for me.

He was my best friend.
The fiercely protective boy who always caught me when I fell.
Until I moved away.
Now, ten years later, Logan Miller is a gorgeous, Grammy-winning DJ and a dedicated single dad—and hotter than any hit on the Billboards!
When our paths cross again, fantasies of him turn into reality.
I moved back to Austin to build a life outside the safety net of my wonderful, albeit overbearing, Indian family. Preferring the company of my old dog, my online games, and reruns of Marvel movies, I’m nowhere close to the type of woman who can handle a public life. The type of woman who’d be best suited for Logan Miller.
But when neither of us can control the gravitational pull of the other, we give in.
In limos, on mountains, on rooftops, in airplanes…
We create the perfect remix of a song written just for us.
But just when the beat of our hearts seem perfectly matched, perfectly in sync, his past threatens to shake the foundation he’s built so carefully. The only thing we can do is rely on the one thing that’s bonded us together—our love.

Logan’s eyes flash with the anger I saw earlier, and he does a quick survey of my entire body before meeting my gaze again. I wonder if he likes what he sees, but then I quickly remember that he’s been with women a hundred times hotter than me. “Is there a reason you didn’t come to Club Vex?”
I swallow, leaning back against the door, begging my knees not to wobble. “We were . . .. I was having fun here.”
Logan takes a step closer, eliminating the space between us and any chance of me escaping. “Yeah, I got that based on the slime that had his hands on you not five minutes ago.” His breath fans my face and my body reacts, arching toward him. What the heck, stupid body?
“Why does that bother you, Lo?” I summon any boldness I can find inside of me to meet him head-on. “Friends let friends flirt with strangers at bars.”
His hands stretch out and capture my hips, his fingers pressing firmly at my sides, creating a warm current inside my core. His heavy bulge rests unabashedly on my belly. “Well, I guess we’re not friends then, Batgirl.”
My breath snags on an exhale. The way his hands are holding me steady right now, they’re both my life raft and the anvil pulling me under. “Then what are we, Logan?”
He doesn’t respond. Instead, his stormy eyes bore into mine, mixing with equal parts of the same emotions I have swirling inside me--hesitation, vulnerability, and lust. He licks his lips and watches as I follow the movement. “Are you?”
My eyebrows crease. “Am I what?”
“Falling?”
Before I can even come to terms with what I’m doing, my hands lift, as if possessed by someone else. I push back the hood from his head before digging my fingers into his soft brown hair. With my head tipped up, I hold his gaze. I’m tired of fighting it, tired of denying it. “Yes.”
And just like that, his mouth is on mine, seizing the last of my breath. His hands slide down my hips and over my ass before resting on my bare thighs. A pool of heat gathers between my legs and I moan, bending into him. My nipples pebble against my bra as my body asks for more. His tongue finds mine, and I relish the sweetness I’ve been craving ever since I first tasted it. He squeezes the backs of my thighs and I feel his chest pound against mine.
The sounds of our lips and moans fill the room, spurring my arousal. I feel needy and heavy, and I’m shamelessly writhing under his touch. He pulls back slightly, capturing my bottom lip between his teeth, pulling and biting before deepening our kiss again.
Cupping his cheeks between my hands, I open my eyes, watching as his lips work over mine. It’s as if I need to see him devour me to believe it’s actually happening. As if he can feel my gaze on him, he opens his, too. And now we’re kissing--like freaks--with our eyes open.
It’s always been this way, hasn’t it, I wonder. Our eyes have always said everything our words never could.
His hand travels up, under my dress, lighting a fire over my skin. His eyes search mine for permission, and at the arch of my hips and the thumb I tenderly swipe over his cheek, he seems to have the approval he’s looking for. His lips unlock from mine before he finds my neck, licking, sucking, biting. “Baby . . .” he rasps.
It's sensation overload as his scruff slides over my neck and his hand finds the hem of my panties. Pushing aside the thin fabric, his fingers trace up and down my slick opening, and I gasp into his touch.
“This,” he whispers, traveling over my wet seam again and again. “This is for me.” His other hand comes to my face, curving over the back of my neck, as his thumb brushes my lips. I pull his thumb into my mouth, sucking gently, and he hisses. His light blue eyes become pools of obsidian as he watches his thumb disappear into my mouth. When I let his thumb go, he slides it over my lips again. “These lips, this body, you . . .” he inhales as if surprised by his own admission, “all mine.”

Review: Truth or Dare
Truth or Dare by Ella Frank
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Truth or Dare is the final book in the Dare to Try series by Ella Frank and Brooke Blaine. A part of me was worried by the way this storyline was made into a trilogy – I feel like it happens too often when it is not necessary – but I cannot deny how much I enjoyed this one. Sure, a part of me believes three books was unnecessary. At the same time, I enjoyed all the feels I was hit with throughout.
This final book in the series is certainly a feel-good story, with all the lightness and feels necessary to ensure the characters get their happily ever after. The drama of the prior books is over and done with, and this book was a way to let us know what their future together after looked like. As for what it looks like, it looks adorable. There were plenty of sweet moments that had me smiling, plenty of entertaining moments that had me grinning, and I could not get enough. It was one of those stories where, once I started, I could not put it down.
Without a doubt, this is a must-read for fans of the series. I now need to go and read the books that tell the stories of the other characters, as I’m eager for more.

Conversation continues around us, but all I see is Layla. For the first time in over a dozen years, I wish my friends weren’t around.
I could pull her out of her chair and onto my lap. She’d feel my hardening erection and I wouldn’t care because she’s the one who did it to me. I’d reach up and thread my fingers through her hair, keeping it away from her beautiful face, and pull her lips to mine.
From that moment on, we would simply exist as one.
“Colt,” she whispers, her voice a lustful combination of turned on and scared. I know the feeling.
“Yeah, baby?”
She makes a noise in the back of her throat. “Oh, shit, you called me baby. I can’t handle this.”
“Sorry. Am I overstepping?” I ask, reluctantly removing my hand from her.
“No! It’s just,” she drops her head, shaking it back and forth, “I never thought…”
“Never thought what?”
Layla’s eyes never leave mine as if she’s hoping she can still read right through me. She probably can, and maybe I should be worried about that but I’m really not. If Natalie’s death taught me anything, it’s that life is short. Yeah, I was hurt. Tim pulled me aside earlier and said point blank that I had only two choices. Either get over it because life isn’t meant to be lived holding a grudge, or live alone the rest of my life and likely have to watch her eventually with another man. He’d understood the hurt, hell, he was the first one here after she left so he saw the destruction from the beginning. The other man part isn’t what changed my mind. It was the holding a grudge part.
Natalie would have kicked my ass if she’d still been here when Layla came back. She always told me we’d find our way back, our path just didn’t look like I’d originally thought it would. And maybe that’s part of why I was holding onto that hurt. Because my plan was changed.
“I never thought we’d be able to even consider getting back to this.”
“Are you considering it?” I ask her, even though I know the answer. I need to hear it from her lips.
She watches me closely. “I am. Might be stupid, but it goes beyond consideration straight into hope. I’m hoping for this.”
I smile and give her neck a little squeeze. “I’m right there with you.”

Five years after my world shattered, leaving me a scarred and broken man.
By then, the girl I knew was gone. In her place stood a woman. One who looked like an angel. An impossible, beautiful angel.
I killed for her. Soaked my hands in the blood of those who hurt her and rescued her from hell.
But hell has a way of following you. Becoming a part of you. Maybe the only part you recognize.
I had every intention of bringing her home. Setting her free.
I swear I did.
But the men who stole her all those years ago weren’t done with her yet. They’d stop at nothing to get her back. And I’d kill any man who tried to take her from me.

Five years.
Five fucking years. That’s how long it has taken me to find her. And the only reason I did was word circulating about Petrov having been duped.
Felix Pérez going into hiding.
Bastard.
I climb out of the car at the entrance of The Hudson Hotel. An icy drizzle pelts me as I adjust the collar of my coat before looking up at the penthouse windows more than twenty floors up.
She’s here.
It’s her.
It has to be.
The second SUV comes to a stop behind ours and as Matthaeus flanks me, three more men fall in line behind him. I push my hands into my pockets and walk toward the entrance. A bellman opens the door. I don’t miss the widening of his eyes when the light from a passing car dances across my face. Maybe it’s not my appearance that’s got him freaked. Maybe it’s my entourage. Because we look like trouble.
And we are.
I make my way to the concierge desk and give the attendant my name. Well, not my real name. The name of the asshole who paid extra to get his turn early in the night. Before she’s used up. He’s dead now.
The attendant can’t quite keep eye contact. I blink, watching him as his eyes move over the eyepatch, the deep, still angry X-shaped scar across my cheek. I let him look. Let him clear his throat in embarrassment as he makes a point of rearranging his desk while asking for identification.
I pat my pockets. “Guess I forgot it.”
He finally forces himself to meet my gaze, his neck and face flushed.
“Envelope,” I say, holding out my hand. I don’t have time for this buffoon.
“Yes, sir.” His hand trembles as he hands the envelope over. He wants me gone and I can’t blame him.
I check my watch. We have to time this exactly right. I walk toward the elevators followed by my men. As if to oblige us, the doors slide open just as we get to them, and we step inside. I rip the envelope open, press the key into the slot marked Penthouse and let the doors slide closed. Matthaeus sets the black duffel bag on the floor, unzips it and hands each of the men an automatic rifle. They have suppressors in place, although there’s really no way to muffle that sound. But if all goes to plan, it won’t matter.
An upbeat tune plays in the background as I stare at my own face in the mirrored doors. I make myself look. Make myself see. I wonder if she’ll be scared when she sees me.
My phone buzzes. I reach into my pocket, take it out, scan the text. Cristiano telling me the soldiers are in place, both inside and outside the property. Chopper is on its way, and they’ve secured our exit.
If I can get out.
If.
Because he thinks this is a shit idea.
But no, it’s not if I get out. I have no intention of dying tonight. Not until I’ve killed that fat fuck Petrov. Not until I’ve buried my knife in Felix Pérez’s gut. Not until I have their blood and the blood of anyone else who touched her on my hands.
Then, I can die.
Only then.
He reminds me again of Petrov’s soldiers nearby, the distraction we arranged only giving us minutes inside the suite. He asks one more time if I know what the fuck I’m doing.
I text him a pirate emoji, along with the middle finger, then silence my phone. He’ll be pissed but this is mine. What happened to her happened because of me. What happened to all of them happened because of me. All while I simply walked away.
So, as the elevator approaches the penthouse, I crack my neck and pull my pistol out of its shoulder holster. Then twist the silencer into place and hold the weapon at my side.
Because tonight is the beginning of their end.
Tonight, I take back what they stole.

“I’m sorry I ruined your night out with Wes.”
Beck licked his full lips. “You saved me, Violet. I didn’t really want to go out, let alone to a strip club. But I haven’t seen him since I got here a few days ago, and he’s been worried about me.”
“That’s Wes.”
“Yep. I figured I’d try, but it wasn’t in me. I’ll make it up to him tomorrow.”
He drained his bourbon. “Why were you at a strip joint drinking alone?”
“I got there early. I was waiting for Wes.”
“Violet. Why were you at a strip joint drinking alone?”
“Guess.” My tongue swiped at the corner of my mouth and his gaze darted to the movement. “Take a stab.”
“Bored?”
“Very..”
His eyes narrowed at me, his head tilting. “Wild girl.”
“I was hoping.” I lifted my cup to my lips and drank.
“Hmm. Wants to live on the wild side real bad, even if it’s only for one night—tonight.”
I drained my cup and put it on the counter with a thunk. Our gazes locked, and it was as if he could see me, see right through the noise to the real me like he had that night at Pete’s. I tore my gaze away—I’d touched a hot stove. No matter how mesmerizing Beck Lanier still was, I was in no mood for true confessions, not tonight.
Oh Violet, are you ever?
I shot him a grin. “So, why is a rock and roller who just finished a highly successful world tour in Meager-fucking-South-Dakota?”
He let loose a low, dark laugh. “For the bourbon.” His warm, low voice drilled straight to my insides, filling them with liquid heat. He didn’t want true confessions either. My oh my, how the years had changed us.
I passed him the bottle, and he poured himself a tiny bit and he poured more for me, still not answering my question.
I knew why he was in Meager.
The whole world’s looking for you, Beck Lanier. That’s why you’re here. You’re on the run, hiding out under the radar for as long as you can while you lick your wounds.
It had been all over social media this past week. What a shit move by his girlfriend. What a piece of work. I still remember when I’d first heard that he and Mae were an item. I’d figured it made perfect sense. Both of them serious and successful musicians, both in the limelight, both so very attractive. They seemed really into each other, happy together.
They made a stunning contrast as a couple. Mae was vivacious and outgoing and wore brightly colored funky outfits, while Beck was more introverted and quiet and always wore dark clothing by European designers and those now famous boots of his that were made for him. He’d even appeared in a fashion magazine editorial for the shoe designer’s recent collection. What a spread that was. I’d saved the stunning photos, of course. Beck Lanier was no garage grunge rocker. He and Mae’s relationship intrigued fans, excited them.
Beck drank and passed the bottle back to me. “Let’s see, did you break up with someone?”
I poured myself more. “Aren’t you smart?”
“But you’re not bleeding over it. Over him.”
I raised my cup at him. “Bravo.”
His eyes lit up, and he pointed at me. “You were out celebrating tonight.”
“I was trying.”
“Trying. Hmm. Then something happened at the Tingle to make you charge out of there. Some jerk came onto you? Or maybe you saw someone?”
I swirled the bourbon in my cup. I needed to stop. Martinis and bourbon could get ugly later. I tightened the top back on the bottle and slid it to the side. “What made you take off with me and not go party with Wes?”
“I’d rather be anywhere with you than in a nightclub with naked women on parade and crazed men acting like they’re thirteen year old boys on a class trip.”
The wind knocked out of me, my face heated, and I let out a laugh. “You did miss out on a lot of naked women in there. But I’m sure a parade of naked babes must be a dull, boring spectacle to you after all these years of touring, huh, rockstar?”
“Pretty much.” His lips twisted.
“Here’s to honesty.” I took my final swig of the drops left in my cup. “How’s the ice pack?”
“Numbing.”
“Perfect. Is your management team going to sue me now?”
“I won’t say it was you. I’ll blame it on that bouncer. Think of it—‘Beck Lanier brawls with outlaw biker in front of strip club in South Dakota.’
“Hell, yes. Fucking hot and super macho.”
He lifted his chiseled chin at me, his fingers touching his bruises. “You did me a favor.”
My insides charged at the rough in his voice, the bright gleam in his eyes, the sly grin, and I crossed my legs, tightly. Tonight was turning out way better than I ever could have imagined earlier when I downed that first martini. Way better.
