ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Clive is an award-winning writer of books and screens plays, and a TV and film director and producer. He has worked throughout the world but currently lives in Miami, Florida with his wife, teenage daughter, and cat Louis.

'Kill Code' is Clive's latest novel - the first in an exciting new dystopian science fiction series set in a world facing climate catastrophe where nothing is what it seems.

Clive also wrote 'Scary Lizzy' - a novel about an eight year old girl, Sarah Wilde, who befriends an African child ghost - and the teen action adventure book, 'The Boy Next Door ' - or what happens when a teenage girl has a crush on her next-door neighbor, who isn't all he seems. And he co-wrote 'Art Pengriffin and The Curse of The Four' - a young adult fantasy adventure about a teenage boy who discovers his father was Merlin the Magician.

Who influenced you most as a writer?
My English teacher at school convinced me that one day I should write a book. I don’t
know whether she really meant it but I always remembered what she said. Many years
later I got around to doing just that. Better late than never, I guess.

What are your favorite books and why?
I enjoy reading a wide variety of books—from science fiction to thrillers, drama, and
suspense. They all take me to new worlds to meet people and go on adventures in my
head. I guess that’s probably why I rarely read non-fiction - I want entertainment, and to
get a new take on reality rather than wallow in the here and now.

When did you realize you wanted to be a writer?
It’s not really the case I ever realized I wanted to be a writer, more had to be. For me
writing is just a way of life—what eating good food or exercising is to others. If I didn’t
write I don’t know what I would do. Maybe stare at my fingernails for hours or end?

Do you have any interesting writing quirks?
Yes. If you count having to always face a window when I write and never writing after 5
pm as quirks? For me, they are just rational things you do to write.

How did you become interested in the genre you write?
I’ve always read science fiction and enjoyed it, though not really the heavy science type
but more the character based futuristic books. The thing about writing sci-fi is that it
allows you to explore moral and political positions while entertaining and driving the
narrative forward. You are unconstrained by the thought—that would never happen, or
that would never exist.

Tell me about Kill Code.
Kill Code: A Dystopian Science Fiction Novel is a first of a trilogy set not that many
years from now in a world decimated by climate catastrophe; where the sun's heat is
deadly and the oceans rise higher every day. It’s a world ruled by the rich, powerful, and
corrupt. The hero Hogan Duran was a good man once: a good cop, forced to resign in
disgrace when he couldn't save his partner from a bullet. Now he lives on the fraying
edges of society, serving cruel masters and scavenging trash dumps just to survive. But
after four years of poverty, Hogan finally gets the chance to get back on his feet. He’s
invited to join the National Security Council, the powerful paramilitary organization
responsible for protecting the rich and powerful from the more unsavory elements of
society. But the NSC is hiding something, and as Hogan descends deeper and deeper into
their world, he uncovers the terrible truth of how the powerful in this new society keep
their power... and just how far they'll go to protect their secrets.

What was the inspiration behind Kill Code?
I didn’t have far to look for inspiration. I took elements of the world and asked: In a
world gone wrong, can one good man make a difference?

Any advice for aspiring authors?
Every writer is an aspiring author because all writers should always aspire to learn and
refine their craft. So, my advice is to ignore the naysayers and, in the words of that great
oracle Nike: “Just do it.”

KILL CODE

WHEN THE OCEANS RISE...THE TRUTH DROWNS

It's the year 2031. Our future. Their present. A world decimated by climate catastrophe, where the sun's heat is deadly and the ocean rises higher every day. A world ruled by the rich, powerful, and corrupt. A world where a good man can’t survive for long.

Hogan Duran was a good man once. He was a cop, forced to resign in disgrace when he couldn't save his partner from a bullet. Now Hogan lives on the fraying edges of society, serving cruel masters and scavenging trash dumps just to survive.

But after four years of living in poverty, Hogan finally gets a chance to get back on his feet. He's invited to join the National Security Council, the powerful paramilitary organization responsible for protecting the rich and powerful from the more unsavory elements of society. All he needs to do is pass their deadly entrance exam, and he'll be rewarded with wealth and opportunity beyond his wildest dreams.

But this ex-cop's path to redemption won't be easy. The NSC are hiding something, and as Hogan descends deeper and deeper into their world, he starts to uncover the terrible truth of how the powerful in this new world maintain their power...and just how far they will go to protect their secrets.

In a world gone wrong, can one man actually make a difference, or will he die trying?
