My Duke's Desire by Tammy Andresen
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I seem to say this regularly with my Tammy Andresen reviews, but her work is very much the guilty pleasure historical romance reads I need every so often. Not that they’re all that guilty when I read the books on a regular basis – but however you look at it, Tammy Andresen is an author I will gladly read. With My Duke’s Desire, we have another wonderful historical fiction that keeps you hooked throughout.
Earlier this year, Tammy Andresen kicked off the Wicked Earls’ Club – twelve novellas by twelve different authors, with Tammy Andresen setting the bar high with her Earl of Sussex. My interest in the series was high, but even higher was my interest upon getting the news of a Tammy Andresen spinoff series – the Wicked Lords of London series. My Duke’s Seduction was the introduction, and it was a wonderful read; My Duke’s Deception was the second book, and it was just as wonderful; My Earl’s Entrapment was the third book, and it continued to provide us with the things we’ve come to love so much about this series. With book four, My Duke’s Desire, we have even more of the good stuff – I will be honest and say it is not my favourite in the series, but it was certainly a fun read.
Know you do not need to have read any of the aforementioned books to enjoy My Duke’s Desire – it works perfectly fine as a standalone novel. We get to see more of the characters from the prior books, which is nice for fans, but you do not need to know their stories to appreciate the roles they play in this story. Nevertheless, as always, I do recommend reading the books – after all, they’re great reads and it’s always more fun when you get that little bit extra understanding. Plus, My Earl’s Entrapment had left me super eager for My Duke’s Desire.
As ever, My Duke’s Desire offered the usual Tammy Andresen concoction. It was a quick read, with great characters and a gripping storyline. It had the emotion and drama that sucks you in, and you’ll quickly fall in love with all that is taking place. There wasn’t quite as much drama in this book as there has been in some of the other books in the series, but My Duke’s Desire offered a very different kind of story to what Tammy Andresen usually offers, which made this book all the more enjoyable. It may not be my favourite book in the series, but it certainly offered a storyline I enjoyed.
Not to mention, My Duke’s Desire leaves you more than read for the next book in the series. I’m more than a little bit intrigued by how the next Wicked Lords of London book is going to play out, considering the possibilities put forward in this one.
