Review: The Awakening of Sunshine Girl

The Awakening of Sunshine Girl The Awakening of Sunshine Girl by Paige McKenzie
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Awakening of Sunshine Girl is the second book in The Haunting of Sunshine Girl series, and picks up shortly after the first book finished. If you have yet to read the first book, turn back now – to really understand and appreciate this one, you need to have read the first book in the series.

Much like the first book, The Awakening of Sunshine Girl gives you exactly what you would expect from a young adult horror novel. It is not a terrifying read, but it does have the constant vibe of there being something more. The supernatural world is ever present, and we get to experience the good and the bad of it.

What I really liked about this second book was how much the world grew. We were given basic details in the first book, we got to see glimpses of limited aspects, and things grew a lot in this second book. The supernatural world was expanded in this one, along with the characters. Things I was interested in with the first book became bigger, things I was curious about were explained. As a second book, this one takes what we already know and develops into something more.

Then it leaves us hanging for the third book.

Many things were introduced to us that left us wanting more, left us desiring answers, but it was the final chapter that really leaves you desperate for the next book. It’s quite the cliff-hanger, leaving you curious as to how everything will come together, and you’ll quickly grab the third book.

A fun second book, well worth reading if you enjoyed the first.
