Author Interview: Alexa Whitewolf.
In the age-old first date manner, tell me a bit about yourself.
Welllll let’s see: I love coffee, I’m a Harry Potter nerd, I love dogs, traveling (got a soft spot for Ireland!), and I hate mushrooms and rice. We do *not* get along! Other than that, I’m an older generation millennial, I can’t stand my phone and loathe having to spend hours on it for social media haha, and my idea of a perfect day is no phones, hiking, nature, and doggos around me! And husband, too… I guess.
Who influenced you most as a writer?
It’s hard to pin it down to just one thing. My English professors in Montreal and in Mississauga built on my love of words and encouraged it. They taught me the value of “show and don’t tell”, and that’s massive in my writing. My husband’s eagerness for unique stories has influenced me in that I constantly try to find new tropes or new areas to dig in, that haven’t been dug in before. And, surprisingly, my dogs have influenced my writing aha because I can’t seem to write a single book without an animal in it.
What are your favourite books and why?
I love the Goddess series by P.C. Cast, because it brings to life old, forgotten legends of Greek mythology but in a super fun and sexy way! Of course, I also love the Harry Potter series and have reread it many, many times, to be reminded of the lessons buried in the pages. And recently I’ve fallen in love with James Rollins’ stuff, more especially his Order of the Sanguines books. The way they mix vampires with almost a Da Vinci Code aspect left my jaw somewhere on the living room floor haha. I do love a nice action-packed novel J And, vampires? I mean, come on! I’m from Transylvania, it’s a given.
When did you realise you wanted to be a writer?
I’ve been writing since I was really young, but the moment it sank in that this is what I want to do with my life, is when I realized how happy writing makes me. No matter what goes on in my life (and at the time, it was a lot), writing is my solace, my quiet place of reflection. It’s also somewhere I get to dump all my emotions and choose when to deal with them haha! So yes, the moment I realized it made me truly, deeply happy, was around the end of my high school years, and that’s when I realized there is no other path for me.
Do you have any interesting writing quirks?
Like, I need a pint of fresh blood before diving into a story? …. I kid. Kinda. I do tend to write better at night time, and on a full moon haha but I blame that on my wolves. I love a glass of wine with my creations, but I think my biggest quirk is finding the perfect position to write in. Spoiler: there is none. Which leads to many frustrated hours of constantly rearranging myself until I end up in the weirdest positions…. It makes my dogs concerns for my health, me thinks.
How did you become interested in the genre you write?
Hmm… Well, I’ve always been drawn to fantasy. I’ve written some books set in the “real” world too, but fantasy has always been what I navigate towards, probably because of the many fantasy books I read as a child. There is a correlation between what I read, to what I write haha.
Tell me a bit about Last to Love.
Oh Lucas… I hesitate to dive into the many arguments I had with my main character while writing the book, if only because it’ll make me sound insane. …. Oops, I guess I just did. Ah, well. Anyway, those aside… Last to Love is the final book in my Moonlight Rogues series, a PNR/suspense series focused on four wolves with chaotic pasts, who run into one town hoping to escape it all. Spoiler: they don’t! But Last to Love specifically deals with the alpha of the pack, Lucas. He’s avoided love all through the series, and he’s always in control – until it starts slipping, little by little. Turns out he’s got something inside him, a different kind of monster that really won’t let him go until he gives in… And then there’s the parallel romance with him and Monica, a beautiful wolf who waltzes into town with a hidden agenda. It’s a wonderful conclusion to the series, and it drained me to write it. But it’s all worth it.
What was the inspiration behind the Moonlight Rogues series?
Well, for the longest time after I started publishing novels, I didn’t want to dig into PNR because everyone was doing it. And then I had a dream, and I couldn’t shake it off, and I kinda had to talk myself into writing the blasted story haha. But when I sat down to do it, I was determined to make it different, and to draw onto Romanian folklore and myths to do so. It was the beginning of a wonderful creative process, as I ended up with four wolves from different regions of the world, with totally different characters and backgrounds and powers and gifts… And the more I dug into it, the more I loved writing them! The folklore itself for each story was the inspiration, but the men, well, a lot of the inspiration for them came from my husband. I wanted to outline heroes that weren’t assholes, and who treat their women right while still being strong, and alpha-like. So it’s a bit of everything, basically.
Do you have another writing project in mind or in the making? If so, can you tell us a little about it?
Only one? Haha! 2020 is bound to be packed with writing, whether I like it or not! So far I have a duology spinoff from the Moonlight Rogues to complete, as it’ll be focused on two zmei (Romanian dragons) brothers. And that’s in parallel with two thrillers I’ve had on the backburner since last spring… Not to mention a brand new series on demons & angels, anddddddddddd a co-author bear shifter series with the lovely Siobhan Caughey, plus another thriller co-author with my longtime buddy and mentor, Eldon Farrell! That last one isn’t until 2021, but I’m still super stoked about it.
Any advice for aspiring authors?
Write and publish at your own pace, but make sure the end product is the best that it can be. Don’t rush for the sake of a deadline, and don’t cut corners either on covers, editing, etc. If you’re going to do it yourself, learn every bit of the craft, and make sure you’re a pro at it. Otherwise, trust the pros.

Review: Far from True
Far from True by Linwood Barclay
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
Far From True is the second book in Linwood Barclay’s Promise Fall series, and I was rather let down by this one. I was not crazy about the first book in the series, Broken Promise, but there was enough potential for me to come back for more. I was ready for the usual standard of Linwood Barclay, the standard that has me hooked on his books, and was disappointed when this second book failed to deliver.
I think one of my biggest problems was that there was too much going on with this one. There are so many characters and so many different storylines, and they are not as interconnected as I would like them to be. There are connections, connections I’m sure will develop in the next book, but in this one it did not feel like the links were there. I felt like I was bouncing from one thing to the next, trying hard to keep everything straight in my mind.
In many ways, this one was a filler book. If you have read the first, this one progresses towards answers. New elements are introduced that will have you curious about how everything will come together, but it does not wow you alone.
All in all, I’m curious as to how this series is going to come together. The Promise Fall series is not my favourite from the author, but it has me wanting to see how everything comes together.

Title: Biker Beauties Volume 1
Series: Biker Beauties #1-2
Author: Audrey Carlan
Genre: Erotic Romance
Release Date: December 30, 2019
Blurb
From
Audrey Carlan, the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the
Calendar Girl series.
Biker
Babe (Biker Beauties #1)
Princess.
That’s what the club calls me. I’m not frilly, into pink, or expect a man to
woo me with chocolates and flowers. I don’t need candlelit dinners and long
walks on the beach.
I’m not the
girl you take home to your parents. I like wild, fun, and good times. I’m the
kind of girl you put on the back of your bike and ride through the night…in
more ways than one.
I like the
wind in my hair and the open road before me. I was born a biker princess and
I’ll be one until the day I die. The man in my life can try to tame me, but
he’ll have one hell of a fight on his hands. Though if he wins, he’ll get the
ultimate prize…all of me. Devoted. His old lady through thick and thin.
So when I
opened my store, aptly named Biker Babe, I didn’t expect to have the biggest,
sexiest, most jaw-dropping man walk into my shop and set my world on fire. I
wanted him instantly. Only problem, my father is the president of the Hero’s
Pride MC, and Taggart “Rex” Crawford is his new Vice President.
Our Pride
likes to live wild and ride free but everyone knows the President’s daughter is
off limits.
***
Biker
Beloved (Biker Beauties #2)
The day I
found out I was going to be a father was the scariest, most shocking moment of
my life. Worse, my brand new baby girl was dropped off in the arms of my
motorcycle club, abandoned by her mother while I was fighting in Afghanistan.
Of course, I did what I had to do, and returned home as soon as possible.
At this
point in my life, women were the last thing on my mind. I could easily pick up
one at the bar or partake of the many club girls vying for The Pride’s
attention.
Then she
entered my sights.
Anya
Markova.
It was her
eyes I noticed first. Bright blue and haunted. They spoke of a sadness I wanted
nothing more than to whisk away. My first attempt at wooing her didn’t go well.
Anya wasn’t the type of girl I could just pick up. She was the type I’d need to
court…relentlessly.
When I
found out Anya was my daughter’s much-admired ballet teacher, I knew exactly
what I had to do—and I wasn’t above using my daughter’s love of her new teacher
to make it happen. Because throughout my years in the club, serving my country,
traveling the world, I’d never met a woman who made my soul sigh the way she
did.
Now, I’d
stop at nothing to make this stunning ballerina my old lady.
The Biker Beauties is a collection of interconnected
standalone novellas. They can be read out of order if desired. They are high in
heat, but don’t forget the sweet.

Excerpt
I didn’t
know what I’d gotten myself into. Recently divorced, I’d met a young woman who
just listened to me rant. I didn’t know why I felt the need to expound my
current sexual status on her, but the dating apps had frustrated me. Who
could you trust on there? Singles adventure clubs? The annual fees were
high, and only half the activities interested me. And then there were the
simple singles bars, which I entered once before turning right back around and
leaving.
Being
unmarried sucked in this aspect. The issue was I still wanted sex. I
didn’t want to be alone with only my fingers. I wanted the feel of a man—the
wet of his tongue, the curl of his fingers, and the strength of his hands on
me—and I was getting desperate.
“Have you
ever considered swinging?” she suggested, and I nearly fell off my chair. A
southern Florida coffee shop seemed like the last place to have this kind of
discussion and with a stranger, no less, but she didn’t look like a social
deviant. In fact, she looked normal. Average in height, dark brunette hair, the
body of someone still youthful, with friendly eyes, and a wedding band.
“Never
thought of it,” I said after choking on my tea.
She paused
for a moment as if she were assessing me and then added, “Not everyone who
swings is married. Some are in relationships, and some are single. People
participate in all manner of combinations. Couples who want a third party or a
single participant looking for a couple who shares. Sometimes, it’s just a
mutual agreement between three, but the term comes more so from those looking
to experiment within a relationship.”
I stare
down at my paper placemat, uncertain how to respond. It sounded crazy and a bit
obscene, but I wasn’t one to judge. I was jealous, in a way. Maybe if Stan and
I had experimented more or been a bit more adventurous, things wouldn’t have
gotten to the point where they ended. Especially with him in the bed of his
secretary.
“Here’s my
name,” she said, offering it on a paper napkin along with a phone number. “If
you have any questions. Otherwise, I’d recommend contacting this number. He’s a
doctor.” She winked after handing me the napkin, and I took it, smiling
good-naturedly even though I knew I’d never call.
However,
the numbers haunted me, and a week later, when I was cleaning out the old receipts
in my purse, the napkin remained intact with her perfect script and two phone
numbers, the second marked with an asterisk.
“Dr.
Lubton’s office,” a masculine voice answers on the second ring, and the
professional confidence in his voice surprises me.
“I…I’m
looking for the doctor.” I swallow back the sudden stutter. “Jessica DeMarco
suggested I call.”
A heavy
pause of silence weighs through the phone for a second, and I wonder if I’ve
lost the connection. “Hello?”
“Were you
looking for a full exam?” he questions, and I remember Jessica mentioning to
request such a thing. I nod, and then recall he can’t see me.
“Yes.”
“And will
your husband be joining you?” I blink down at the napkin, pinched between my
fingers.
“I don’t
have a husband.” Silence falls again, and after another weighted second, I ask,
“Do I need one?”
A soft
chuckle fills the line, reassuring instead of mocking. “No.” Pause. “But
may I ask if this will be your first exam of this sort?”
Closing my
eyes, I think, What am I doing? I’m no longer certain, and not certain
how to answer, so I go with the truth. “Yes.”
“I see, and
for the purposes of an initial consultation, would you prefer an assistant be
in the room?”
Did I
want someone else present? A witness to my humiliation? Again, I wasn’t certain what exactly I was
getting myself into, any more than I knew how to answer the question. Deciding
that embarrassing myself in my lack of knowledge should best be done alone, I
reply, “I think I’ll be okay without one.”
“Very
well.” There wasn’t a hint of a smile or frown in his tone, but the continued
smoothness of a true doctor. Good bedside manner. I want to laugh out
loud at the pun. Instead, I wait for his instructions on how to proceed.
“I have an
eleven o’clock on Thursday open.” It’s strange to consider he does this more
than one time a day with more than one person, possibly more than one person at
a time, and I realize I’m at great risk of making a fool of myself. Not to
mention, can I muster my libido midmorning on a weekday? Remain open-minded, I
remind myself. He called it a consultation. Maybe he really is a doctor. Maybe
we only discuss options. Maybe he can explain what’s happening to me at
forty-five as a single woman, previously married, and desperately seeking
pleasure.
“Thursday
would be fine,” I say, knowing my calendar is flexible. I’m a real estate
agent. The southern Florida market ebbs and flows based on weather predictions
and the hurricane season. I’m mildly successful but wish I was doing better.
Older people are a key to my accomplishments, and I fear one day I’ll be
classified as one of them. Old.
“Please
dress comfortably and be prepared to sign a consent form.” The instructions
surprise me, and once again, I nod. “I look forward to meeting you.”
Author Bio
Lana Brazen is the alter ego of a bestselling contemporary romance
author who believes romance doesn’t need to end just because you crossed over
forty. In a fantasy life, she was an anthropologist, a journalist and a
world-famous novelist on the level of F. Scott Fitzgerald. None of that has
happened. Instead, she’s written over twenty romances, mothered four children
and remains with the one and only. Sometimes, she likes things a little hotter,
spicier, raunchier than contemporary trysts, and so begins this chapter.

Review: To Want a Rogue
To Want a Rogue by Tammy Andresen
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
To Want a Rogue is another incredibly quick read from Tammy Andresen, one that can be devoured in no time at all. Although To Want a Rogue is linked to the De Wolfe Pack and the Chronicles of a Bluestocking series, the book can be read as a standalone. Those who have read the Chronicles of a Bluestocking series will recognise the male lead from one of the books, but an introduction is not necessary to understand him.
As always, Tammy Andresen provided a story that packs plenty into the short read. To Want a Rogue pulls you right in, ensuring you’ll be happy to complete the story in a single sitting. You’ll fall for the characters and will be desperate to see how everything comes together, for both the main characters and the side characters.
All in all, another enjoyable quick read from Tammy Andresen.

Review: The Perfect Christmas
The Perfect Christmas by Annabelle Anders
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I’m not the biggest fan of short stories, but I am a big fan of Annabelle Anders. Thus, when I found out there was to be a short in the Not So Saintly Sisters series, I was more than happy to dive in. Although this is not my favourite Annabelle Anders read, it is a wonderful story.
The Perfect Christmas gives us a quick little read, providing us with the story of one of the side characters we were introduced to earlier in the series. You do not need to have read the other books in the series to understand this one, as it works perfectly fine as a standalone short story, but I do recommend reading them for a wee bit more information on the characters. However you go about it, this quick story will have you hooked.
Although I enjoyed this one from the start, I did fear I would not love it in the way I have loved other books from the author. It was enjoyable, yes, but I was unsure if I would love our male lead in the way I have loved other male leads from the author. The details we had left me unsure, but as the story progressed, I fell for him.
As always, the relationship between the characters was wonderful. They sucked me right in and I could not get enough, with our male lead winning me over in a big way. I adored their interactions, wearing a stupid smile on my face (as I often do when reading Annabelle Anders), and happily finished this one in a single sitting.
If you’re looking for a great historical romance, one that is a quick read, The Perfect Christmas is well worth grabbing.

Review: Love, Lies, and Hocus Pocus: Identity
Love, Lies, and Hocus Pocus: Identity by Lydia Sherrer
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
Since starting the Lily Singer Adventures series, I’ve been hooked. It’s a wonderful world of magic, one that has me desperate for more of the characters and the storyline. Whenever there’s a new book, I’m always eager to dive in.
With Love, Lies, and Hocus Pocus: Identity, book six in the series, I wasn’t quite as in love as I have been in prior books. I enjoyed it, yes, but it didn’t quite wow me in the way the other books in the series have. I think a part of this is due to how much I loved book five, and I was expecting a wee bit more from this one.
We pick up where things left off in the prior book, this time spending most of the book following Sebastian. I adored getting to follow Sebastian, as I love his character and am always happy for more of him. With everything that happened in the prior book, I was doubly interested in getting to see things as we follow his character.
Although I enjoyed following Sebastian and liked the way things developed in this book, I do feel things were a bit slow. There was a lot of important stuff happen throughout this book, but it was only towards the end that I was at the level of investment that I have been with the other books in the series. It was the end that had the action and the drama, before then things felt a bit too slow for me. Sure, we got important information, but it didn’t feel quite as intense as I would have liked with all that was happening.
I may not be labelling Love, Lies, and Hocus Pocus: Identity my favourite in the series, but it is another important book in the series. If you’ve enjoyed the series thus far, you need to dive into this one to see what happens next.

Review: The Neighbor
The Neighbor by Lisa Gardner
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
The Neighbor is the third book in Lisa Gardner’s D.D. Warren series, and it was another fabulous read. Moreover, after my complaints about Bobby Dodge stealing the show, with this one it really is D.D. Warren leading things. We do get an appearance from Bobby to see what is going on in his life, but this one is very much D.D. Warren handling the case.
Although I enjoyed the first two books, I’m willing to call this one my favourite of the first three. Even though I worked out some of the details, there were plenty of twists and turns involved to keep me guessing throughout. It hooked me right away, pulling me in, and I devoured this one in a single sitting.
There were some elements towards the end that I would have liked a bit more information from, but this did not stop me from being hooked. Moreover, the fact one of the characters in this one is linked to a Lisa Gardner book I have yet to read has me super curious to go and find out more about their character.
All in all, The Neighbor was another wonderful read from Lisa Gardner, and I will be continuing my binge of the series.

Moreover, the fact one of the characters in this one is linked to a Lisa Gardner book I have yet to read has me super curious to go and find out more about their character.
All in all, The Neighbor was another wonderful read from Lisa Gardner, and I will be continuing my binge of the series.

Review: Two
Two by Jane Blythe
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
After finishing One, I was eager to dive into Two to see what happened next in Jane Blythe’s Count to Ten series. I had been hoping things would pick up where the prior book left off, continuing the storyline, but this one was separate from the first.
At first, such left me disappointed. I need to know what came next for the characters in the first book, I need answers to my lingering questions. Although my disappointment remained, I did grow curious about this one. I did not enjoy it as much as the first book, but it did have me powering through it.
As with the first book, the mystery aspect of this story was really interesting. There were some elements I could not buy into – some details were a bit too farfetched, some aspects did not follow police procedure, some elements seemed to be missing to keep people guessing – but it did not stop me from being curious. There was plenty to uncover, and I was happy to keep reading.
Also like the first book, I did not buy into the romance with this one. It felt flat, I did not feel anything for the relationship, and it annoyed me a little bit. In some ways, I think this would have done better as a suspense, not a romantic suspense.
All in all, an enjoyable second book. I did not enjoy it as much as the first, but it has me curious about the rest of the series.

Review: The Starless Sea
The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Although I enjoyed Erin Morgenstern’s The Night Circus, I was never as obsessed with it as some people. Sure, I really enjoyed it, but it did not make it onto my list of favourite books. Nevertheless, I was extremely eager to dive into The Starless Sea.
The Starless Sea is a story within a story. It’s an ode to books, book lovers, and everything bookish in the world. It pulls you right in, leaves you addicted, and throughout your addiction will grow. It’s a book filled with possibility and wonder, one that will keep you gripped throughout.
From the very first page, I was sucked into this one. I fell in love with the story and the characters, and my mind was trying to puzzle out all the ways in which things were connected. It’s an intricate story, one where all the details come together in a fabulous way, one that requires you to stop and take in the magic.
As wonderful as it was, there were elements that disappointed me. The romance, in particular, let me down. I expected something magical, something overpowering, but I never felt the connection between the characters. I wanted something grand, the kind of love that makes it seem possible to overcome anything, but the romance aspect of this one felt a wee bit flat. I liked the characters, I wanted to see them together, but I never felt the connection between them that I expected.
I’m also unsure how I feel about the openness of the ending. A part of me really liked it. Another part of me wanted more of a conclusion. It’s an ending I’m conflicted about, as I’m a big lover of seeing what comes next and getting more. The ending worked for the story, but my love of getting something extra had me wanting more.
All in all, The Starless Sea was a wonderful read. I could not put it down, it had me hooked, and I’ll certainly be diving into the next Erin Morgenstern book.

An Enemies to Lovers Holiday Tale
An Enemies to Lovers Holiday Tale
Author: Cora Brent
Genre: Contemporary Romantic Comedy
Release Date: December 19, 2019
Release Date: December 19, 2019
Blurb
Maybe there’s one of us in every family.
The guy who scorns all the rules.
The guy who shuns expectations.
The guy most commonly known as the ultimate villain in a
cultish self help movement.
On the other hand, perhaps we’re not as common as I
thought.
But so what if I’m never anyone’s hero?
At least I’m a good brother. That is the one thing I manage
to get right. So when my big sister is abandoned by her prick of a
husband, leaving her and her four kids alone a week before Christmas, I don’t
hesitate to head home.
To my surprise, I’m not the only one who shows
up.
Katrina has always been my sister’s best
friend. She’s headstrong and hot. She’s neurotic and
sexy. She belts out old power ballads with horrible, tuneless
abandon and her hair always smells like vanilla cookie batter.
We have a long history of being at odds and she’s never
appreciated my natural talent for getting under her skin.
And then there was the time when we accidentally got naked
together…
There might have been some post-wedding horniness
involved.
Combined with antique furniture abuse.
Along with a creative application of lemon
buttercream.
It’s kind of a forbidden topic.
Now, nearly a decade later, it’s possible I’m still using
that memory to get off once or twice or twelve times a
month.
Katrina never knew that back in the day she was the one girl
who really got to me.
In the spirit of the holidays I’ve decided it’s time to
settle the score.
She already thinks I’m not one of the good guys.
She also realizes I’ve got something she wants for
Christmas.
All she has to do is swallow her high maintenance pride and
ask nicely.
I can guarantee she’ll get more than she ever bargained
for...
*SYLER MCKNIGHT is a complete stand alone with:
· Small town
quirkiness
· Enemies to Lovers
(with majorly hot hate sex)
· A sarcastic
flannel-shirt-wearing anti-hero
