Little Miss Tress: Diary of a Submissive Switch by Tressa Rabbit
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
I wish to preface this review with a quick little point regarding three star ratings. A lot of people seem to think three star ratings are bad – well, they’re not. Three stars still reflects an enjoyable read. In many cases, I use three stars to rate a book when I feel a lot of mixed emotions towards the book. Such is the case here. This book is a three star rating because I found it so difficult to rate – not because it was bad, simply because I felt a whole range of things towards it.
Little Miss Tress was a very interesting read. It wasn’t at all what I expected, yet what I was given was something wonderful. You see, I went in expecting the usual erotica. The typical girl meets boy, boy shows her a new form of pleasure, and they live happily ever after. Such is not the case with this book. If that is what you’re looking for, such is not the book for you. If you’re looking for an eye opening read, something very different, something that will make you stop and think, the kind of book to make you look at the BDSM world through something other than the rose tinted glasses of erotica novels, then this is the book for you. It will leave you thinking, it will leave you curious, and most of all it will leave you wanting to find out how this story plays out.
Honestly, this was so different to what I expected in so many ways. It really does open your eyes up to the world, giving us an insight never given in the popular novels in this genre. It isn’t the usual story of bodies colliding, it doesn’t contain your broken male characters finding redemption through the love of a near perfect woman, and it isn’t a tale for those expecting the normal clichéd romances. Due to this, I found the book to be a wonderful shock to the system. It was different, so different.
It is real life, plain and simple. Well, real life of the non-vanilla variety. Whilst you’re given details of the BDSM world, of the kinks we see in the story, we never go into vivid detail. There are some scenes, yes, but mostly it is getting you to experience the other elements of the world. Mainly, the emotional ties connected to such a life style. Whether you’re a part of this world or simply curious, it will leave you stopping and thinking.
It’s the perfect read for anyone wanting a deeper look at a world to have been idealised through clichéd romance novels.
